Harry Potter quotes

I realize i need to update this to include all of the books now - but I don't have the time now.

I'm sure many of you will roll your eyes at this posting BUT I DON'T CARE.... For many years it's really bothered me that some people in this world hate Harry Potter because they think it's evil and about witchcraft and it must be about the devil. But in reality It's about more that wizards and casting a spell. It's about friendship, good vs. evil and how to overcome evil, love of a family (blood or not). So below are some of my favorite quotes from the book that can be applied to life in general:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 movie

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince showing

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

1. "A powerful emotion had risen up in Harry's chest at the sight of Dumbledore, a fortified, hopeful feeling rather like that which phoenix song gave him."
2. "The guilt filling the whole of Harry's chest like some monstrous, weighty parasite now writhed and squirmed. Harry could not stand this, he could not standing being Harry anymore.... He had never felt more trapped inside his own head and body, never wished so intensely that he could be somebody-anybody-else."
3. "There is no shame in what you are feeling, Harry," said Dumbledore's voice. "On the contrary... the fact that you can feel pain like this is your greatest strength."
4. "Harry, suffering like this proves that you are still a man! This pain is part of being human."
5. "I'VE HAD ENOUGH, I'VE SEEN ENOUGH, I WANT OUT, I WANT IT TO END, I DON'T CARE ANYMORE"
6. "You care so much you feel as though you will bleed to death with the pain of it."
7. "Harry, I owe you an explanation," said Dumbledore. "An explanation of an old man's mistakes. For I see now that what I have done, and not done, with regard to you, bears all the hallmarks of the failings of age. Youth cannot know how age thinks and feels. But old men are guilty if they forget what it was to be young... and I have seem to forgotten lately."
8. "I was sure that if he realized that our relationship was - or had ever been - closer than that of headmaster and pupil."
9. "He said it out loud to try and ease the dead weight of guilt inside of him; a confession must surely relieve some of the terrible pressure squeezing his heart."
10. "Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike"
11. "You fought a man's fight. I was.... prouder of you than I can say."
12. "I cared about you too much," said Dumbledore simply. "I cared more for your happiness than your knowing the truth, more for your peace of mind than my plan, more for your life than the lives that might be lost if the plan failed. In other words, I acted exactly as Voldemort expects we fools who love to act."
13. "According to Madam Pomfrey, thoughts could leave deeper scarring than almost anything else"

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Book coming out.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

1. He imagined how it must feel to have parents still living but unable to recognize you. He often got sympathy from strangers for being an orphan, but as he listened to Neville's snores, he thought that Neville deserved it more than he did. Lying in the darkness, Harry felt a rush of anger and hate toward the people who had tortured Mr. and Mrs. Longbottom."
2. He knew one thing only, and it was beyond fear or reason: He was not going to die crouching here like a child playing hide-and-seek; he was not going to die kneeling at Voldemort's feet... He was going to die upright like his father, and he was going to die trying to defend himself, even if no defense was possible."
3. It was the sound of hope to Harry... The most beautiful and welcome thing he had ever heard in his life.. He felt as though the song were inside of him instead of just around him... It was the sound he connected with Dumbledore, and it was almost as though a friend were speaking in his ear."
4. "Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery. He needs to know who has put him through the ordeal he has suffered tonight, and why."
5. "If I thought I could help you," Dumbledore said gently, "by putting you into an enchanted sleep and allowing you to postpone the moment when you would have to think about what has happened tonight, I would do it. But I know better. Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it. You have shown bravery beyond anything I could have expected of you. I ask you to demonstrate your courage one more time. I ask you to tell us what happened."
6. "It was easier to keep going now he had started. It was even a relief; he felt almost as though something poisonous were being extracted from him. It was costing him every bit of determination he had to keep talking, yet he sensed that once he had finished, he would feel better."
7. "You are blinded by the love of the office you hold. You place too much importance, and you always have done, on the so called purity of blood."
8. "Take the steps I have suggested and you will be remembered, in office or out, as one of the bravest and greatest Ministers of Magic we have ever known. Fail to act- and history will remember you as the man who stepped aside and allowed Voldemort a second chance to destroy the world we have tried to rebuild!"
9. "Time is short, and unless the few of us who know the truth stand united, there is no hope for any of us."
10. "It is my belief, however, that the truth is generally preferable to lies"
11. "We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. Lord Voldemort's gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing an equally strong bond of friendship and trust. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open."
12. "Remember, if a time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave."
13. "I don't want it and I don't need it. But I could do with a few laughs. We could all do with a few laughs. I've got a feeling we're going to need them more than usual before long."

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

1. "That suggest that what you fear most of all is - fear. Very wise, Harry."
2. "THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE DIED!" roared Black. "DIED RATHER THAN BETRAY YOUR FRIENDS, AS WE WOULD HAVE DONE FOR YOU!"
3. "Didn't make any difference?" said Dumbledore quietly. "It made all the difference in the world, Harry. You helped uncover the truth."
4. "The consequences of our actions are always so complicated, so diverse, that predicting the future is a very difficult business indeed."
5. You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us? You think that we don't recall them more clearly than ever in times of great trouble? Your father is alive in you, Harry, and shows himself most plainly when you have need of him."
6. "You know, Harry, in a way, you did see your father last night.... You found him inside of yourself."
7. "He had believed he would be living with Sirius from now on... his parents' best friend... It would have been the next best thing to having his own father back."

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

1. "A promise is a promise," Hermione reminded Harry bossily.
2. "...you will find that I will only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to me. You will also find that help will always be given to those who ask for it."
3. "Which goes to show that best of us must sometimes eat our words," Dumbledore went on smiling.
4. "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

1. "... said Dumbledore. We have much to be thankful for."
2. Harry felt a great leap of excitement. He didn't know what he going to- but it had to better than what he was leaving behind.
3. "Books! And cleverness! There are more important things-- friendship and bravery and -- oh Harry-- be careful!"
4. "To one as young as you, I'm sure it seems incredible, but it really is like going to bed after a very, very, very long day. After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure. You know, the Stone was really not such a wonderful thing. As much money and life as you could want! The two things most human beings would choose above all-- the trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing precisely those things that are worst for them."
5. "Always use the proper name for things. Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself."
6. "The truth." Dumbledore sighed. "It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution."
7. "...to have loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever. It is in your very skin."
8. "There are all kinds of courage, said Dumbledore, smiling. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends."
